If there’s one thing I learned today, it’s that lines in the sand are just like the sand you draw them in, malleable. Erasable. Far from finite. For every line I cross with Aurelia, I find myself clearing that out and drawing a new one. Scratch. Scribble. Repeat.

I’ve stopped asking what it is about her that has me so captivated.

I’ve stopped questioning the extent of my desire for her.

The way I want her is not rational and it’s not reasonable. So I’ve moved on to the acceptance phase of this addiction. Now I have to find my way to the abstinence stage—fucking impossible. It only took a moment. Her eyes on me. The sexy, pleading way she told me she wanted to watch me get off to her. That’s all it took for me to finally snap. The way she came, just from the smallest touch—the way she said my name and those goddamn sounds she made as she did that will live forever in my head.

The things this woman does to me.

I had considered going to the club tonight. My club. The one only my friends and brother know I belong to and occasionally frequent with me. There are branches all over the world and the New York one is practically walking distance from our hotel.

But there is no appeal in it. Not that there was ever much, but any that had been there all but died the moment I laid eyes on her. That’s how I ended up with my cock in my fist in the first place. Her.

Business dinners are about as appealing to me as sticking my head in a blender and pressing the ON switch. They require peopling and being polite and personable. They require smiles and inane chuckles at ridiculous jokes over small talk meant to put people at ease. All things I not only suck at but don’t have the desire to work on improving. This was why I invested in companies instead of running them.

I’m not a gladhander.

But Maria Marcato requires a little finessing and personal attention with her business decisions. Maybe that’s why her company is going down the toilet. For such a closed off woman, she needs a lot of hand-holding. I offered to simply view her warehouse and then write her a check, but the woman came back to me demanding I wine and dine her a bit first because apparently, she likes a little foreplay before she gets fucked. Or in her words, she simply can’t imagine selling off her business to just anyone off the street.

I think they can feel me rolling my eyes at that from space.

Frankly, it’s why I decided to bring Aurelia along in the first place. She is everything I’m not. All bright sunshiney sweet goodness. Not to mention she already has a relationship with Marie when few do.

I open the door of the restaurant, holding it wide for Aurelia to pass through first. It’s dark in here in a very New York chic restaurant way.
