Just a block from the Mall is the 1909 Hotel Boulderado (2115 13th Street; tel: 303-442-4344), which has a gorgeous fin-de-siècle lobby topped by a soaring stained-glass ceiling. Around the corner, Boulder Theater (2034 14th Street; tel: 303-786-7030; www.bouldertheater.com), an Art Deco landmark, hosts concerts, dance, films, and the weekly broadcast of National Public Radio’s e-Town. Nearby, the landmark Boulder Dushanbe Tea House (1770 13th Street; tel: 303-442-4993; www.boulderteahouse.com) is an exotic polychrome tile structure from Dushanbe, Tajikistan, one of Boulder’s six sister cities.

Just south of the teahouse, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (1750 13th Street; tel: 303-443-2122; www.bmoca.org; Tue–Fri, Sun 11am–5pm, Wed until 8pm, Sat 9am–5pm; charge) features shows by visiting artists and a series of lectures and workshops. Boulder County Farmers’ Market (tel: 303-910-2236; www.boulderfarmers.org; Apr and Nov Sat 8am–2pm, May–Oct Sat 8am–2pm, Wed 4–8pm), one of the nation’s top farmer’s markets, occupies 13th Street between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue. Entrance to the Boulder Creek Path is steps away, at 13th and Arapahoe.
