Chapter Thirteen

“I TOTALLY fucked up,” Cisco blurted out as soon as Benny answered his phone.

“Yeah, you did. You called me at five in the morning. Have you lost your goddamn mind? Call me back at a decent hour,” Benny complained sleepily.

“No, wait! Please I need your advice,” Cisco pleaded.

“Jesus, Cisco, you know my brain doesn’t work at this time of the morning.”

“I know and I promise to make it up to you, but I really need to talk to you. I messed up last night. Max took me into the club for the first time, and I didn’t obey his rules. He is beyond pissed at me.”

“I’m proud of you.”

“I’m serious.”

“So am I. You’re a grown man, dude. You don’t have to take orders from your man. Haven’t you ever heard the saying that compromise is the success to any long-lasting relationship?”

“It is a compromise, Benny. I know you have a hard time understanding it, but through pleasing him, I get pleasure. I’m not like you. I’m not aggressive or dominant. I want to serve him.”

“You’re right, I don’t understand. What the hell do you mean you want to serve him? You barely know him,” Benny countered.

“But I do know him. At least part of me does. It’s like when you see someone and in that moment, you just know there’s this connection. Only deeper, like soul-deep, almost magical in the way you’re drawn together. That’s what it’s like with Max. I know I’m exactly where I belong and I’m really trying, but everything has been happening so fast, I’m having a hard time focusing.”

“Well, if you have this magical connection, then he’ll understand and give you a bit of time to adjust to everything. I don’t see the problem.”

“Well… umm…. You see….”

“Would you just spit it out? I want to help, but fuck I’m exhausted. I didn’t get to bed till two and I have to get up in a couple hours for work. So if you don’t mind….”

Cisco gritted his teeth and blew out a breath. Benny was going to freak. “I have to learn quickly because apparently Max accidently put me in danger and—”

Cisco pulled the phone away from his ear to keep Benny from rupturing his eardrum as he screamed. “I knew it. You need to get your ass home pronto!”

“I can’t.”

“Why the fuck not? I warned you that those bloodsuckers were going to end up killing you. If you’re in danger, get the fuck out. Problem solved.”

Cisco sighed. He should have known Benny wouldn’t understand. It had been a mistake to call him, an even bigger one to tell him he was in danger, but he needed to talk to someone. He was feeling as if he were drifting in an ocean of uncertainty. He could use a damn lifeline, and he really needed Benny to be it.

“At this point I’d be in even more danger if I left. It’s not from Max or his staff, it’s from outside forces who want Max’s power for themselves.
