Vincent apologized profusely and said from now on he’d refuse to give Thomas Blood any more lessons on the computer, but Lochlan said, “No. Keep giving him the lessons, but make sure you teach him everything all wrong. The best we can hope for is to keep him busy and occupied and not learning anything useful.”

I knew how that felt. I still felt like that when I was learning a new program on the computer.

After the chastened young vampire had left, I turned to Lochlan and asked, “What do we do? Should we tell the McGraths that that gift certificate wasn’t from you and was some kind of trick? Suggest they stay home?”

He shook his head. “I think the best thing to do is to go to the pub on Friday night as you usually do, Quinn. Go with that friend of yours so we’ve got somebody inside. We’ll make sure that Billy is on duty keeping an eye on Biddy and Blood.”

Oscar Wilde said, “So you believe it’s those two scoundrels that are trying to get the bakers out of their bakery that night?”

Lochlan shrugged. “Who can say? It could be them, it could be some other party. I’ll get somebody to keep an eye on the bakery, as well. If it’s not Biddy and Blood who want the bakers out of the way, then who is it?”

Oscar Wilde said again, “Or, if someone particularly wants the bakers inside the pub on that Friday, again, why?”

I could tell that it would be up to me to keep an eye on Paddy McGrath and his wife, which wouldn’t put me out very much. As Lochlan had said, I usually went to the pub on a Friday night, anyway. Billy would be disappointed, though. He enjoyed popping in for at least part of the evening to spend it with Karen. Now it sounded like he’d be on gumshoe duty.
