â¢One is for saving money for a big purchase (an Xbox or a bike), a vacation or mission trip, or maybe even college.
â¢The next jar contains money for spending. Thatâs the fun oneâmoney for movies, snacks, music, the latest book or game⦠whatever. Itâs for stuff you want right away.
â¢The third jar is money for sharing. The Bible tells us that we should be giving away at least 10 percent of our money to help other people. After all, when you think about it, everything we own comes from God, and giving is a good reminder of that. You can give to your church or a charity. Have you heard about an organization that helps kids? Or a group that helps people in Africa have access to clean water? Try giving them some money each time you get paid. Itâll feel good, youâll be obeying God, and youâll be helping people.
So hereâs how this jar thing works. Letâs say you receive ten dollars. You put one (10 percent) into sharing, four into savings, and five into spending. Thatâs a good habit to develop. Try it for a while.
9. Manage Yourself
This goes along with the calendar thing, but as you get a little older, try depending on your mom or dad less to get you up for school, help you get ready, pick up your room, and stuff like that. Doing more for yourself will start to feel good as you look at everything youâre accomplishing.
10. Develop Personal Hygiene
What does that mean? Simply put, it means donât stink! Take a shower at least every other day. Brush your teeth and keep your hair clean. Trust usâpeople will like you a whole lot better that way. And as you enter this new stage in life, you might find that you need to start wearing deodorant. Just slap a little on under both arms before you go out, and youâll smell a lot better. See chapter 11 for some helpful tips on personal hygiene.
