After another fancy dinner and bowling, of all things, Stephanie was counting down the days to her and Brett parting ways. Without any prompting from her or any knowledge, as a matter of fact, he had already been spotted out and about with another young starlet, one that seemed much better suited to him.

Catherine Johannes was a knockout former model with legs that were at least six feet long and bright red hair. She was a firecracker to Brett's introvert.

The gossip sites were all abuzz with the news and Stephanie was not altogether surprised to get a phone call as the final week started.

"Contract has been fulfilled, you are hereby released from any future engagements with Mr. Brett Masterson."

Stephanie flopped onto the couch and sighed. "Thank you, Marty. Best news I've had all day."

"Glad to be of service, kid. Wasn't all that bad for that kind of dough, huh?"

"Not at all. He's a sweet guy, just not my speed. He'll be okay with Catherine, I think. She'll take care of him. Did we do what we set out to from the PR standpoint?"

Marty laughed a throaty guffaw. "You bet. People were terrified of him before, scared he would fly off the handle and hurt someone again – if, in fact, he hurt anyone to begin with. Now they are questioning everything about the hit and run case and offering him work. You did good, kid, very good, without even trying."

"Thanks, Marty." She thought for a moment. "No more contracts for a while, okay? I'm going to take some time."

"Sure thing. You deserve it." Marty shuffled some paperwork around. "Hear from your folks?"

Stephanie laughed. "Funny you should ask. Mom called just yesterday and they are finally headed home for a while. They should be here day after tomorrow."

"That's fantastic! Have your dad give me a call, okay? I want to see the family and have dinner."

"You got it, Marty. Thanks again. I appreciate it."

"My pleasure, kid. Talk to you soon."

Stephanie hung up the phone, feeling light and unanchored in her own body. With a quick change into a new pin-up model inspired suit, she headed out to the pool to swim away any lingering worries and soak up some much-needed sunshine.
