Xeva yawned as they went on the tour of the shield that kept the island safe, and the small vial of suspended materials that powered it was under heavy guard. Jeron chuckled and kept a hand on her back as they talked with the researcher.

The researcher smiled. “Long night?”

“I am out of practice with socializing.” She stifled another yawn.

“We met family and had a reunion last night,” Jeron murmured.

“That sounds fun.”

Xeva nodded. “It was certainly memorable.”

“Yes, it was.”

Xeva wanted to smack him, but she had no energy. She had woken up on top of him with his cock still inside her.

They met a few more techs that ran the shield that protected the island and all the inhabitants. When they had finished, Jeron checked his com. “We still have enough time to meet with the tattoo artist.”

She flexed her arm with her new com unit embedded. “Okay.”

They walked through the city, her feet in flats and the skirt in a different arrangement than the ones in the village. This skirt wrapped around and tied in the front where a hanging segment kept things decent. The top had support straps.

She looked around at other women in the town, and they were wearing versions of the outfit she had on. Her outfit was just slightly more formal.

When they got to the tattoo shop, Jeron opened the door for her. The inside was empty.

“Maybe we are late?”

Jeron shook his head. “No. If it is empty, he is doing a detailed tattoo. If it isn’t out here, then it is a sensitive area.”

He paused, “Reth!”

There was a deep snarl, “Who is it?”

“Jeron.”

The voice got cheerful. “Come on back. This is some of my best work.”

“I am bringing my intended.”

“Good. She can see what a good sitter looks like.”

Jeron held her hand, and they came around a barrier, walking until they were in a private office where a woman was wearing some towels, and she had a strange marking that ran up and down every limb with strange connection nodes. The final markings were being connected on her forehead, but the most striking thing was the violent bruising that was on her legs, torso, and shoulders.

When Reth finished the last stroke, he cleaned the markings and said, “All done.”

The woman grinned and sat up. The lines running along her limbs and around her torso began to glow. She flexed her head and grinned. “Perfect. Thank you so much.”

Xeva stared at her, and it suddenly clicked that she knew her. “You are one of the team apprentices. Zella?”

“No. Zella is the reason I got these marks. I am Ysma.”

“What? No. You are Gemini.”

“No. I am not. That was Zella’s idea. But we are parted now, and these marks will help me stay that way.”

Reth smiled. “It is some of my best work. Can I scan it?”

“Sure.”

When Ysma got up, her nearly shaved head turned toward Xeva, and she gasped. “Oh, my god.”

Jeron was instantly tense. “What?”

Ysma looked at her. “Do you have a problem? Can I help?”

“No.
