Black Holes and Quasars
Quasars are typically extremely massive stars that emit large amounts of energy. There is evidence that each quasar contains a massive black hole, and that it’s a stage in the evolution of many large galaxies.

This image of Galaxy NGC 1068 was composed of visible light from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, and high X-rays (magenta) from NASA’s Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, or NuSTAR. The X-ray is from an active supermassive black hole in the center of the galaxy. NGC 1068 is relatively close to our galaxy—about 47 million light-years away.
