SCRIPT FOR THINKING 4A

Getting priorities right from the start

I know that it is like this:

•When I do things of one kind I often feel something very good because of this.

•At the same time, I know that I can’t do something of this kind at all times because sometimes I have to do other things.

It will be good if I often think about it like this:

•‘I can’t do something of one kind now, as I want; I can do it after.

•Before I do it, I have to do some other things.

•I don’t have to do these other things for a very long time.’

* * *

If I think about it like this, I will not feel something very bad when I am doing some other things.

You could think something like: ‘Mum and Dad won’t let me read aeroplane magazines whenever I want. They’ll let me read them at particular times, like after I finish my homework. This is good.’

It’s good to pay attention to your parents and teachers, who often know better than you that a special interest ought to be modified or swapped for something else to avoid stressing others or risking actual harm to yourself. Here is not the place to talk about this – talk first to your parents to get approval of a special interest or activity.
