Open Wide: A Girl’s Guide To Unashamed Sex
“I was always brought up to be modest. In our house we never walked around naked. I don’t think I ever saw my mother without any clothes on. She always locked the bathroom door and never appeared without a robe. I found the idea of being naked with a boy was nerve-wracking enough. But the idea of opening up my legs and letting him look at me … well, it was out of the question.”
That was Frannie, twenty-one, from Tarry town, New York, who originally wrote to me about what she supposed was her “frigidity.” In fact, she had a very strong sex drive; Her only problem was that she lacked sexual knowledge and technique; and without that knowledge and technique, she naturally lacked confidence.
She was embarrassed about showing herself, not just because she’d never shown herself to anybody before—not her husband or the two boyfriends with whom she’d slept before meeting him—but because she was concerned that her husband would think her a whore.
But no sexual relationship can be widened or improved unless you’re both familiar with each other’s sexual organs and frequently enjoy the sight, the feel, the taste, and the aroma of them. Aroma? I can hear some of you ask, nervously. Well, yes, for sure. Your vulva odor, the so-called cassolette, contains powerful chemicals that can arouse in men a tremendously strong sexual response.
Of course you should always keep yourself clean. But immediately prior to making love, you should never wash away all of those natural chemicals with perfumed soap or vaginal douches. You may think that you’re making your private parts smell as sweet as a rose, but in fact you’re not doing yourself any favors at all. Men are naturally and irresistibly attracted to the smell of your vulva; and as part of sexual foreplay, bodily kisses lead steadily and inexorably toward your genital area.
If you’ve been brought up to regard nudity as embarrassing and your sexual parts as something you’d rather not discuss, let alone stare at—let alone allow your lover to stare at—then of course it’s not your fault. But if you want to take that Great Leap Forward in your sex life, then you’re going to have to grit your teeth and open yourself up, regardless.
Remember what I said before about your vulva. It’s yours, it’s individual, but it’s beautiful—and in your lover’s eyes it’s absolutely the most entrancing sight in the entire universe. Before your Mutual Discovery Session, you should have taken the opportunity to look through as many men’s magazines as possible, just to get yourself used to the sight of women with their legs open, showing off their vulvas, and to the variety of different vulvas there are.
You may disapprove of women opening up their legs for magazines. But whatever your objections, you, unlike them, won’t be exposing yourself in public. You’ll be exposing yourself only for your lover, to show how much you adore him, to show how close you want to be to him.
