Chapter Five

“We have to go,” Nigosi said as he got to his feet.

“What?” Kitoo asked. He’d been staring so hard at the players that he hadn’t heard his friend.

“It is time. We need to get back to Jackson.”

“Perhaps we could stay a few minutes more,” Kitoo said.

“No. We need to leave.” Nigosi offered his friend a hand and helped him to his feet. “We must leave now.”

Kitoo reluctantly nodded.

They started to walk away, but Kitoo kept looking back, not wanting to go, wanting to watch the skaters just a little bit longer. He was not watching where he was walking, and he bumped straight into a trash bin. He looked down into the bin and could hardly believe his eyes. There amid the trash was a rollerblade!

He reached in and picked it up. The skate was missing two wheels. There was a second boot beneath the first one. It was missing all of its wheels, and the whole undercarriage was gone. It was just a plastic boot.

Kitoo held them up for Nigosi to see.
