Looking around the house guards gathered in the salon, I take a deep breath and shove my personal feelings aside. It's past midnight now, and time is of the essence. I need to focus on finding Chops.

"Listen up," I say, raising my voice a little over the murmurs, and they die down. "Chops Lollo is apparently missing. Anyone seen him? Or seen anything out of the ordinary? Speak up."

"Uh, I think I saw him talking to Ms. Rochford earlier," offers Marco Vecchi.

"Very fucking suspicious," chuckles another guard.

"Not helpful," I snap. "Okay, I'm about to go up and speak to Ms. Rochford, but before I do, tell me anything I need to know."

Voices overlap as a bunch of them try to relay the sequence of events. But none of the details add up. The security footage shows nothing amiss—Chops hasn't been wandering outside, and no unauthorized access points were breached. No one has hacked the video feed, so far as anyone can tell. Gino Bernardi had a few visitors to his wing today, but all of them were sanctioned—people like Jack and Leo, or the kitchen staff.

At least we know Chops Lollo is still inside the house. That narrows it down some, though I want to cover all my bases.

"Alright, everyone," I sigh, running a hand through my hair in exasperation. "All available hands search the house, and the grounds too, but make sure we still have eyes on that asshole Russo, and the guards around the two factions. If you hear or see anything, report it immediately."

As they disperse, I lean against the wall, closing my eyes for a brief moment. All I can hear is Sandro Castellani's voice, from after Clemenza got knifed.

What happened reflects on me. My reputation, the Family's reputation, will suffer—and it happened under your watch, DeLuca.

God fucking dammit.

"Raf?" It's Oz, leaning against the wall with me, looking concerned. "That redhead is likely to wake the whole house if you don't—"

"Yeah, on my way," I say, pushing off the wall and heading out. I pause in the doorway. "Oz?"

"Yeah?"

"Keep an eye on Darian for me, would you?"

"Sure thing," he says. "I'll check in on him while I search for Chops down that way. Don't you worry about a thing."

I give him a nod. "Thanks."

As long as I know Darian is safe, I can concentrate on everything else.
