The Hike

From the parking area Corkscrew Peak dominates the skyline several miles away to the northwest. The route begins toward the right (east) side of the peak. There isn’t an official trail, but most of this popular climb is served by an easy-to-follow user-created trail, except at the very beginning. Recent flooding has erased portions of the trail in the Boundary Canyon wash.

From the parking area hike north to northwest about 0.4 mile, aiming toward a mountain with banded rock. Head toward the ridge on the right side of the first side wash and then enter the left side of the second side wash. Continue up the wash toward brown boulders with splashes of oxidized red and white rocks. The wash narrows and climbs to a low ridge above a mesquite thicket at around 0.6 mile with the way occasionally marked with a cairn. At this point you’ll pick up a good user trail that leads around low ridges and gullies to a wide wash at 0.9 mile.

Turn right (north) up this main wash, which provides good walking on a hard-packed pebbly surface. The user trail varies from distinct to faint to nonexistent, but you don’t really need a trail in the wide-open wash. After about 1 mile the canyon closes in on the left side of the wash, marked by a large boulder. A dark rock band marks the right side. Enter this left side canyon at 1.9 miles and continue up a short distance to an alignment of rocks that spans the 25-foot-wide canyon floor.
