Chapter 20
Lok pushed back from the music equipment console and propped his orange Puma runners on the lip. Larger than life, he pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes.
“I think we got it. You happy with it?” Lok dropped his feet and leaned forward, looking at her from halfway around the world on the large screen they used for collaborating via video.
“It sits good with me.” Ryn stretched like a cat reaching her fingertips toward the rafters of the large open room, careful not to let the pain in her left side play on her face. The loft area, on the second level, with its comfy hammock, beckoned her to have a siesta.
“Two people sounding like they’re settling.” Maari glided into the studio smartly dressed in a dark peach pencil skirt and white silk blouse that accentuated the exoticness of her colouring and features. A pair of death-defying Jimmy Choo stilettos swung casually from her slender finger.
“It was a rough afternoon.” Lok laughed, making his crystal blue eyes ringed with dark blue, sparkle. His dark colouring matched Maari’s in many ways. Raven black hair, darker skin tones - his a mix from Italy and India, hers from Japan and North America Chippewa-Cree.
Ryn, dressed in navy capri leggings and oversized white shirt, probably looked the sloth to Maari’s sleek butterfly, but she didn’t care. Working in the studio, she always opted for comfy rather than publicly presentable.
And who the hell was she kidding? She would rather walk across hot coals than wear the business posh ensembles that her friend did every day. But Maari’s sleek attire matched her personality to a razor point that was as sharp as her cheekbones.
Maari gave her a quick hug of welcome, her dark sheet of hair brushing around her. “An air kiss will have to do, Lok. I must say, being on that monster screen does you justice. Not many people can say that.”
“Well, thank you. It’s a pleasure to be in your sparkling company, Maari. Ryn is always telling me my pores are too big and where I have a zit coming.”
The accused laughed. “I most certainly do not. Now, if you two are done fanning each other’s ego, Lok, you have a meeting to get to, do you not?”
“Giving me the boot. Very you, Severyn Andrews.” Lok’s eyes danced without any mirth or anger. “But yes, I do have a meeting, so that means you must give in now.”
She pulled away from Maari’s side to grab some water and growled. “Enough already.”
Maari looked between her and Lok on the screen, perplexed. “What am I missing?”
“Our girl didn’t tell you?”
“No, our girl is good at keeping things to herself.”
“This girl is standing right here, thank you.”
A pair of tongues stuck out in unison at Ryn.
“May Antel’s upcoming fundraiser—” Lok began.
“May Antel? Her events are legendary.”
May Antel was the daughter of the Massachusetts Senator and a philanthropic fundraising event planner extraordinaire.
The excitement rang in Maari’s voice, and she did a little jig, when the realization quickly dawned on her sharp mind.
