Later that evening, Alex was curled up on their big sofa. Erin was lying with her feet across Alex’s lap and Alex casually rubbed her feet. She always craved the physical closeness of Erin and wanted to touch her in some way and massaging her feet while they watched a movie was something she loved to do. She loved watching Erin’s long muscular legs stretched out over her in her pyjama shorts.

Alex also loved that they had the same taste in films and TV. There had to be a strong female lead and they both enjoyed thrillers and crime. Alex had always loved watching badass women and she couldn’t help glancing across the sofa at her very own badass woman. Something she never thought someone like her would be able to have. Yet here she was, her actual girlfriend, Sergeant Erin Kennedy. Strong, physical and capable of anything and here she was relaxing for Alex’s hands. Alex smiled to herself.

There was a knock on the door to their living room. Alex looked at her phone. It was 10pm. She felt really pissed off. Couldn’t they just leave her be for once to have a normal cosy night in with her girlfriend and Netflix?

“This had better be important,” Alex called.

“It’s Joanne, Ma’am, I have Rob Greene with me. Can we come in?”

Alex sighed and looked frustratedly at Erin who paused the movie. Alex took a deep breath. “Give me a minute,” she called.

Alex jumped up and grabbed a long silk kimono that looked significantly more professional than the underwear and big t-shirt of Erin’s that she had been wearing. “You happy like that?” Alex asked Erin. Erin shrugged. Alex knew Erin wasn’t bothered who saw her in shorts and a t-shirt.

“Come in and please sit,” Alex called as she straightened herself up and put her professional face on.

Joanne and Rob Greene were still in their smart suits. They came in and sat on the chairs opposite the sofa.

“Ma’am, Sergeant Kennedy,” Joanne nodded.

“Ma’am, are you happy for us to speak in front of Sergeant Kennedy?”

“Please do. I have no secrets from Erin.”

“Ma’am, we have just arrested some protestors who broke in over the castle walls onto the estate. Two of them were armed. There is graffiti outside the walls saying Kill the Queen. We have to consider this as a significant threat on your life. We would like you to cancel your engagements and stay home for now until we have chance to investigate further.”

Alex felt Erin take her hand. “Lex, I think this might be wise to consider. Don’t be reckless here. You have nothing to prove.”

Alex felt her heart beat faster and rage burning inside her. She hadn’t come this far to only come this far. She wouldn’t let these people stop her from what she was trying to achieve.

She stood up to maximise her height and status and let go of Erin’s hand.

“I won’t be cancelling anything. I have school visits lined up over the next couple of weeks, they are very important to me and I will be attending them.
