Chapter Ten

Early the next morning Sarah lathered sunblock on every piece of exposed skin she could reach. The ship had docked at Cozumel and she and her friends had made plans for a sail, snorkel and beach party excursion. It sounded like fun, but Sarah knew she'd be just as happy to stay in the cabin all day and read while Will worked. But she didn't want to get in his way or distract him. Besides, she was determined to have a good time on her own.

Will opened the balcony door and came inside. His hair was mussed from sleep, the curls askew. A sexy growth of beard shadowed his chin. "Hi," he said. "You're up early."

"I'm on my way to Cozumel." Sarah rubbed lotion onto her arms.

"Oh. Okay." He almost sounded disappointed.

"Just for the day. I'll be back late afternoon. I didn't want to disturb you while you were writing."

"You wouldn't disturb me."

"Maybe not, but I've always wanted to try snorkeling and today's my chance."

"I wish I could go with you," he said, "but after yesterday's adventure, I don't think I should push my luck."

"That's for sure. Besides, you've got a book to write," she said with a smile.

Will tossed his blankets onto the bed. "You really are a slave driver."

Sarah set down her bottle of sunblock and picked up his discarded blanket. "It probably comes from keeping five year olds in line." She folded the blanket in quarters and put it back in the closet. "I just want to see you finish your book. You've got so much talent. You said yourself the writing went better yesterday. Don't let anything stop you. Just finish the book."

"Thanks Sarah. Your support means a lot to me."

They stared at each other for a moment, the air between them charged with awareness. Sarah searched Will's eyes for a clue as to his feelings about her. Suddenly he looked away. Sarah busied herself by plumping his pillow and putting it in the closet.

She gave a shaky laugh. "My support will be a kick in the butt if I find out you've been slacking off."

Will straightened the papers on his desk, putting them in one pile and then another. "In that case I'd better work hard."

Sarah sat on the edge of the bed and opened her bottle of sunblock once more, her hands trembling. She put a little lotion on her hand and spread it on the back of her neck, stretching to reach her shoulders. She'd have to get Josie or Beatrice to put some on her back or she'd fry.

"Here, let me do that."

Surprised, she handed him the sunblock.

Will squirted some into his hand before giving the bottle back to her. "Hold your hair out of the way."

She did as she was told. He massaged the lotion into her skin on the back of her neck, his touch gentle, yet firm.

"What about your back?" he asked. "You can't take chances with your fair skin."

"I thought I'd get Josie to do it when we get to the beach.
