Chapter Ten

“Thanks for meeting me early,” Kelly said to Rachel. “I wanted to talk to you without Marley around.” They found an empty table in the food court and sat down across from each other.

“What’s up?”

“I think I slept with Logan.”

Rachel sat up straighter. “What? Wait. What do you mean you think you slept with her? How can you not know?”

“Remember the other night when we were at the bar, and you left early?”

“Of course.”

“I stayed later.”

“Yeah.” She made a rolling motion with her hand, indicating she wanted Kelly to get to the point.

“I had too much to drink,” Kelly said.

“You never drink too much.”

“It was the first time. I got drunk. Very drunk. I woke up the next morning in Logan’s bed. Naked.”

“Was she naked too?”

“She was already up when I woke up. She had a bathrobe on with a nightshirt under it and no pants.”

“Like she’d gotten up and just threw something on?” Rachel rubbed her chin.

“That’s what I thought too. The bed was a mess. Like there had been quite the wrestling match.”

“Holy cow. And you don’t remember it?”

“No.”

“You slept with Logan and have no memory of it? That’s wild.”

“Rachel, you aren’t helping here.”

“Oh geez. I’m sorry. But I told you she was into you. What happened in the morning? I mean did she say anything about it?”

“She said she was surprised to see me up so early after last night. She also asked me if I wanted to go back to bed.”

“Like do it again? Have sex again?”

“I’m not sure. I don’t know what to think.”

“What did you do?”

Kelly leaned in. The food court was starting to fill up around them. “Nothing. I waited until I felt good enough to drive and went home. It’s not like I could ask her if we had been intimate,” she whispered.

“How would you have ended up naked in her bed if you weren’t?”

“No idea. I could have died from embarrassment.”

“Have you heard from her since then?”

“She called twice. I didn’t answer.”

“And you didn’t call her back?”

“Call who back?” Marley asked as she approached the table.

Rachel looked from Marley to Kelly and raised her eyebrows.

“Logan,” Kelly answered.

“That’s the hot bartender. Right?”

Kelly cringed at the description that she and Rachel used to use.

“Yes,” Rachel answered. “You’re here early.”

“We’re doing inventory today and got our lunch breaks sooner than normal. I didn’t know you were here already. I’ve just been wandering the mall. I’ve only got a half hour left. I’m going to grab something to eat.”

“You go ahead,” Rachel said. “We’ll get something in a minute.”

“You guys all right? Kelly looks like she’s ready to crawl out of her skin.”

“We’re fine. Just talking. Nothing major,” Rachel said.

“Okay. If you don’t want me to hear, I’ll be over there getting Chinese. Want to signal me when it’s safe to come back?”

“Don’t be silly,” Kelly said. “Come back as soon as you get your food.”

“We’ll continue this as soon as she goes back to work,” Rachel said as soon as Marley was out of earshot.
