Loki has been telling me about his namesake, the Norse God of Mischief. It fits him perfectly. I can’t believe he made himself known to the detective! But now it’s all out in the open. I think it gave the poor man a bit of a shock.

Still, I’ve noticed that Willow has been calling him Thomas instead of Bardot. Things are moving forward.

--Thoughts from Luna

The following day when I shuffled downstairs in my dressing gown, Thomas was finishing up a conversation on his phone, deliciously wearing only a pair of navy boxers, matching navy socks and a grey t-shirt crumpled from sleep. His auburn hair stuck up and needed a good brush or for me to run my hands through it.

I yawned widely, tiredly waved a greeting in his general direction, and poured myself a coffee from the already-brewed pot.

The sweet, warm aroma was drifting up from my cup just as Thomas set his phone down on the table. “Maybe hold off filling those claim forms.”

“Oh? A problem?” I asked, sipping the coffee, which was much too hot but contained the essential caffeine needed for life.

“Yes, a problem called Maria,” he said, chuckling softly at his own joke.

“Too early for puns,” I said, sipping my too-hot coffee. “Always too early for puns.”

“Maria Weaver, to be exact.”

I almost choked on my coffee. “Weaver as in Weaver Weaver?” I gasped.

“Yes. Weaver Weaver.”

“But his wife died. It was in the news articles I read,” I said, desperately performing a search function in my brain to bring up information on Georgie’s personal life.

“Maria is his daughter. She turned her back on her father a long time ago. We’ve been unsuccessful in contacting her for days. And now she’s come to us.”

“Lucky,” I said, then with the help of the few caffeine molecules I had ingested, the meaning of this new development caught up with me. I made a face. “She’s going to claim his inheritance, isn’t she?”

“I imagine that’s why she has stepped forward,” Thomas said. “The fact Georgie received a significant sum before his death was all over the news last night; someone leaked it early. I'm not surprised it got out with so many people part of this giant claim.”

“So she came sniffing when there was money but didn’t care enough to see her father before he died.”

“To be fair, her father caused untold misery to dozens of families and drove a young father to suicide.”

“You make a good point. Continue.”

“She’s insisting that I meet with her right away. I imagine she wants to get things sorted quickly before the claims can go through the system.”

A long sigh escaped my lips as I glanced at the folded letter on the kitchen table. Seven grand. “Easy come, easy go.”

“Exactly. It’s a shame, but–” Thomas’ phone buzzed with a message. He frowned at the screen and typed furiously. It buzzed again. His frown deepened.

“Something wrong?” I surmised.

“Campbell has told her I’ll speak to her right away.”

“That’s ok, isn’t it?” I said.

“As in right now. As in, he’s told her I’m staying here and has given her directions.
