IT WASN’T, NOT EVEN close. The speed and delivery of Dusty’s informational dump session had her mind swirling off into the unbelievable. He told her everything, things she wished she didn’t know, and even things she feared. It came spiraling from his mouth as he leisurely explained the coming and goings back in their reality as if describing the weather.

Discussing how he came to be, how she magically gave birth to a tribrid of all things was just as confusing as she would have expected though she forced herself to try. Her clone helped with tidbits of details as they walked along the sand filling in questions from them both as to how it was even possible in the first place. As awkward as it was for them both, Dusty took it in stride, he always did, probably always would.

She wanted to fully embrace the idea, but she grappled with it all. Having been in a coma and being spelled into producing offspring unknowingly made her feel as if that special bond, that spiritual connection to a child was somehow stolen from her, missing for all it was worth. She should care about her child, care for Dusty but not having a say or even an interaction with anything to do with childbirth left her sidestepping most preconceived notions on being a mother.

Her clone had detailed how they had bartered with Odele to act as a magically glamoured mid-wife, of sorts, throughout the process. Being tainted by a lesser demon, the old swamp woman had been more than willing to assist for a chance at an increase in not only power but position. It still didn’t shake her feeling of being used as a puppet or that they had brought Odele into the mix. The memories of watching a newborn Dusty get pushed into a protective bubble months later only to grow rapidly through the passing of space and time distanced her feelings of being a part of the tribrid’s life even if her clone had been up to this point.

His mentioning of Truddie Mae sending him here to claim her, to stop her outright broke her heart as much as it angered her that she could ever willingly be considered a threat to those she had come to know and love. She knew she had left on rather tense and shaky ground with the old woman but had never thought that she would be viewed as evil or simply up to no good. It seemed now she was walking a thin line when it came to emotions. One side wanted to confront Truddie Mae, the other simply sought the comfort and support the old Keeper routinely offered.

The old woman had been right when she warned her of using that spell and slipping into the veil. The motherly ways of the damn near ancient Keeper had been trying to lovingly support her all the while steer her to safer approaches all along. The stubbornness eventually won out creating a rift between them that now seemed to have only grown since she left.
