Chapter 10

Tiana did her best to pretend that she was having the time of her life. Her mother had insisted on throwing the biggest cast party ever and had told her daughter firmly that she would personally come out to the apartment to get her if she did not show up. “And think about spending the night, darling. We have not spent a Christmas together in a long time and I intend to make up for it.”

So she had gotten dressed up in the stunning black Dior that fitted her like a second skin and the impossibly high strappy shoes, and had driven the two hours to her mother’s chic apartment in the exclusive neighborhood she lived in. Latoya Clare-Robinson believed in doing things in a big way and the place was crowded with the cast from her show as well as some other celebrities that Tiana recognized.

Francesco had not called her back. She had left a message and he had not called her back which sent her a very clear message. It had been a fricking one-night stand and she had fallen for it! “Thank you.” She plucked the champagne off the tray and drank down half of it before taking the glass from her lips. It was too crowded and brought back so many memories that she was beginning to think that she should head on home, grab some eggnog from the ones overflowing in her mother’s fancy little used kitchen and go and drown herself with dairy and liquor.

“I feel the way you look.”

Tiana closed her eyes in irritation and was about to tell the person that she wanted to be alone. “Look-” She turned, and her eyes widened in shocked surprise. “You’re Jordan Grace! I love your music! What on earth are you doing here?”

He grinned at her and grabbed a flute of champagne from a passing waiter. “I was threatened,” He pointed to a stylish African-American woman standing next to her mother. “The woman who gave birth to me said that she normally does not ask anything of me, and if I did not accompany her to this soiree, she was going to disown me. I was suitably scared. What about you?”

“The woman standing next to your mother is mine and she basically told me the same thing, except in different words.” Tiana said with a sparkle to her eyes. “I am sorry I appear starstruck, but I really love your music! The latest one, ‘Play in the dark’, is my all-time favorite. The rhythm, the incredible lyrics… ” She shook her head. “I am sorry. I don’t usually do this-”

“I am glad you do this time.’ He took her arm and guided her over to a loveseat in the corner of her mother’s living room, away from the crowd and noise. “And I have to say that when I saw you I thought that the party was looking up.” His dark brown eyes wandered over her face, admiring the face with the sculpted cheekbones. “I recognize you, of course, and must say the modeling world lost a hell of a treasure.
