“Who was that?”

“Don’t worry, it was Conway. I had to tell him, it’s too serious not to.”

“What’s he going to do that we can’t do? He’s due to retire soon.”

She shrugged helplessly. “So? He’s a Garda. He’s trained. And I’m hoping he has contacts in other stations he can call in to help us once we’ve assessed the situation.”

“You’re stone mad,” Colm said, shaking his head. “I’m going in to get a breakfast roll. You want one?”

“Yeah go on so,” she said, pulling up the maps app on her phone. “It’ll take him a while. I’ll have a jambon. Just make sure it’s not one of those vegetable ones. I got one of them by mistake last time. It was disgusting.”

She remembered Kate mentioning the Flanagan’s big house in Dundrum, but as soon as she looked at the map she knew it was hopeless without having at least a street name. And none of the streets radiating out from the town centre struck her as familiar.

Sighing, she opened the web browser and tapped in ‘Flanagan solicitor’. There were too many results to be useful and she couldn’t remember the man’s first name. She tapped on the news search, but she knew it was pointless. She didn’t have time to scroll through the results to find out which ones were crime reports from the courts and which might be more to do with social events than legal matters.

There was only one thing for it.

She opened her email app and found the last email Kate had sent about the wedding planning. Fi hadn’t paid much attention to the actual email address her sister was using—now she prayed it was the same webmail account she’d always had and not an email address associated with her new website. If it was the latter, Fiona had no clue how to access it.

She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw it. It was the same as always.

She wasn’t home and dry yet. She went back and selected the option to add a new account to her phone. It felt very strange doing so, but the circumstances weren’t exactly normal. Plus she’d done the exact same thing before in a less urgent situation.

She just hoped Kate hadn’t suddenly decided to become internet savvy. It wouldn’t doom them, exactly, but it might slow them down.

But no, Kate hadn’t paid attention to any of the many warnings her family had given her. Her password was still katemcabe, just like the last time Fi had tried it. Her triumph was tinged with regret that her sister was so irresponsible, especially now she was running a business and invoicing people for a lot of money.

Her regret was short-lived, though. She tapped ‘flanagan’ into the search bar and soon came up with a series of emails back and forth with Marie. She scanned the right-hand side, looking for any messages with attachments. There were none.

She returned to the top and searched ‘flanagan invoice’. There was nothing. She shook her head. How was her sister billing people? She remembered Kate’s words then.
