Chapter 11
âYOUâRE FILTHY.â Holding the rainstone in her hand, Luca looked him up and down, making Rage feel, quite unexpectedly, uncomfortably vulnerable.
He was filthy. He was naked and three times as old as this girl heâd just been in bed with.
She had tricked him in a way he didnât want to think about right now.
She had saved his life.
And apart from one other person, she was the only one who knew about his past.
He sighed.
âShower?â she asked.
âShower,â he agreed.
âI can twist the magic again so we can have warm water.â Luca put the rainstone on the windowsill, blew at it, and watched the first drops gather in invisible clouds directly beneath the ceiling. It looked as though the beams were crying.
âCome on.â She tapped her foot again. âIâm tired and hungry. We need to shower together, unless you want to wait and put up with cold water.â
It was an easy decision, given Rage was chilled to his bones. He took a tentative step toward the falling drops. They were indeed warm. The girl pulled him underneath the spray, apparently unconcerned about her nakedness.
âYouâre bold,â Rage said, more to break the silence than to make conversation. This was an unusual situation, and he didnât quite know how to deal with it.
âWeâre married now. No need to be shy in front of oneâs husband.â She raised her face into the water, grinning and flickering her eyes in his direction. âI didnât expect you to take it quite so well.â She stretched as she rolled her shoulders.
Clumsily, because of his burned hands, Rage took the soap. Flakes of blood were washed away, dirt and foam, but it was taking him a while to get clean with his hands feeling so strangely numb and tingly.
Luca was watching him.
It was unnerving.
âHand me the soap,â Luca suddenly ordered. âI can see your hands hurt. Like this, weâll be here for another hour, and I donât have the strength to keep the water warm for that long.â
When he hesitated, she just took the soap out of his hands. Roughlyânow that she was this close to him, she was a little less bold, he realizedâshe dragged it over his head.
âBend down a bit so I can wash your hair. Sorry, but I was focusing on healing the really bad wounds. I will try and take care of your hands later.â
âYou could have healed them right after the fire,â he stated but then frowned. âNo, you couldnât. You needed my hands burned so you could bandage them and my bracelet with them. How did you know about the braceletâs magic?â
âI kind of overheard your conversation with Keiran.â
Once more, Rage sighed, then bent his head as ordered. Silently, with his eyes closed, he stood and endured her touch. She wasnât gentle, her fingers strong, but someone taking care of him was a surprisingly nice experience.
When he was clean, Luca washed her own hair. âHave you never slept with a woman?â she asked casually, as if she were talking about gardening.
