“THAT VACATION DID the trick.”

Lisa looked at me with questioning eyes. I hadn’t told her what happened with Cassandra in Guyana, and wasn’t planning to.

“I guess it did.”

My book was written and would be ready for release within a few weeks. Relief washed over me as I sat back in my chair, a cup of coffee in hand, as I looked around the little coffee shop.

Lisa sipped from her coffee and cleared her throat. She suspected something, for sure.

“You’ve been more quiet than usual these past months since you came back. What’s happened? Did an anaconda attack you?”

I shook my head with a smile. I did get bitten, but not by a snake. Cassandra was still on my mind even after so many months. She’d turned eighteen, but that didn’t mean anything.

“I asked Rhea for a divorce. We signed the papers last week.”

Lisa was stunned. She probably never expected me to have enough balls to do it.

“Wow.” She leaned back and pursed her lips. I could tell that she was proud of me. “Did she put up a fight?”

I laughed. Rhea wanted a divorce, as well. Apparently, her cruise with her mother was just a cover up for her trip with her girlfriend. I wasn’t the only one who cheated.

“Nope.”

I shrugged and looked through the glass wall of the coffee shop. The sidewalks were full with people, hustling to get around.

“Okay then.”

I closed my eyes as my thoughts drifted off to Cassandra. I’d realized that it was pure infatuation. I did think of her, but only because I was stunned by her beauty. She gave me the confidence I needed to pursue happiness, and I’d forever be grateful. Cassandra was temporary happiness, someone I didn’t regret. People come into our lives for many reasons, and she was definitely a good one.
