Chapter 8: Mated

Saying vows to River before a pack full of werewolves was less intimidating than Josiah expected it to be, mostly because all he could see were River’s crystal green eyes as Josiah promised to be his forever. River thumbed the tears from Josiah’s eyes before saying his own vows and then kissing Josiah senseless, the cheer of the crowd effectively bringing reality back. After that, the new members of the pack swore their allegiance to them both and less than fifteen minutes later, Josiah was on his knees in their living room, River’s cock in his throat, after having begged for it to River’s satisfaction.

“I’ve missed this,” Josiah said sometime later, calves resting on River’s broad shoulders as River thrust into him. Josiah’s body accepted River like a lost piece, opening up and snugly embracing him. River groaned in reply and bent to kiss Josiah, tongue slipping past Josiah’s lips. Josiah eagerly met it with his own.

“If you hadn’t been so stubborn…” River murmured into the kiss.

“I wasn’t being stubborn, I was trying to decide my future,” Josiah objected.

River placed a finger over Josiah’s lips. “I’m sorry. Let’s not have this argument while we’re making love.”

River smiled, and Josiah smiled back, clenching his inner muscles around River’s cock just to see the hungry expression on his mate’s face.

Josiah gave himself over to the wash of sensations. He wasn’t in heat, and therefore making love was different from before; there were no multiple orgasms or hazy fog lingering in his brain, but that afforded Josiah time to enjoy every small touch and caress that River gave him. Josiah liked the sight of River’s face their current position afforded, and watched every changing nuance as his hands wandered over River’s chest and belly, fingers tugging at the dark hairs trailing downward, and finally exploring the place where their bodies joined.

Afterward, they lay together, sweat drying and hearts slowing to their regular pace. River kissed Josiah’s temple.

“How does it feel to be first omega?” he asked. Josiah had first heard the term at the mating ceremony, but he hadn’t had time to digest it.

“I don’t know; what does that mean exactly?”

“It means you are not only the mate of the pack alpha, but you are also the lead omega. You are in charge of all omegas in the pack, and they will revere you as such. You’ll take over Danny’s duties at the omega den, too, although Danny will help you. Malcolm is my third, and since David has not mated and I didn’t until today, Danny took the place of first omega until now. He will in effect be your second omega.”

“Do you think everyone will resent me since I’m half-human?” Josiah asked. He knew, of course, that the friends he’d made wouldn’t, but the pack was large.

“They’d better not, or they’ll answer to me.”

“Typical alpha answer,” Josiah said on a sigh. “I really can take care of myself—I was only wondering what you thought.”

“I think they have no reason to resent you.
