Margot walked out of the courthouse a free woman, with only a few exceptions ordered by the judge. The first was that she had a court date she couldn’t miss, and the second was that she couldn’t leave town. Despite Wright delivering an impressive argument that this restriction was unfair, the judge agreed with ADA Antone that Margot was a flight risk.

“Sorry, I couldn’t lift the travel ban,” Wright told her as they descended the courthouse steps.

“Don’t be. Shaw can take Amber back to Colorado.”

“She won’t be happy. For some reason, she seems to like you.”

“I’m very likable.”

“If you say so. So, what are you going to do?”

“What do you mean? I’m going to do what I always do, go back to work.”

“Really?”

Margot smiled. “I might make a stop by the Lucky Irish Motor Lodge and test Shaw’s theory that they’re more willing to talk to P.I.s than cops. He should be too busy with Amber Lynn to do it himself.”

“Going to try to solve the crime yourself?”

“I am an investigator.”

Wright nodded. “Well, try to keep yourself from being arrested while you’re doing it.”

“I’ll do my best.”

“No, do better than that. It won’t matter if you’re in the right or not. Any kind of trouble is going to get your bail revoked.”
