The next day, I kept my promise to Carla. After kissing Marie-Claire goodbye for the day, we slipped through the passage to our Chicago building for Carla’s date, going for a run along the lakeshore. The crisp fall weather made the experience better this time.

After our run, we made love in the apartment, starting gently first, then quickly escalating until Carla pushed, pulled, bit, and clawed me as we fucked like wild animals. We ended up creating a Carla-shaped dent in the wall of the bedroom.

After a short nap, we made love again, showered, and then visited with the security staff for about an hour, taking notes on staffing and equipment suggestions.

April stopped by as we were wrapping up with the security folks. She requested an on-camera interview with me to add a little color to their Sunday morning update. She suggested I reiterate some of my points on how there’s hope for humanity. I agreed, and she kissed both Carla and me warmly before she left for Prescott.

Carla and I took a Lyft across town to meet with Father Joseph, who was doing well. When I asked about Remy St. Jacques, he said he’d been told to send the archbishop’s limo to the airport to pick up a VIP. He had no idea who it was and where my ancestor went after our little encounter.

My lovely blonde wife and I ended the evening with dinner at Morton’s before returning to the residence in Prescott just in time for Carla to nurse Marie-Claire before bed.

The next day, N’elisa and I went to Phoenix midmorning to join Fliss, Nord, and a handful of engineers on a trip to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, near Dulles airport in Virginia. I opened a teleportal to the hanger in Virginia and stepped through to gaze upon the carcass of the space shuttle Discovery. Radiation was only slightly above background levels. The engineers considered it safe, even for relatively fragile humans.

The Orgish crew crawled all over the venerable spacecraft. Amadee frowned as we watched. She murmured, “It is a small craft. You could maybe get a crew of four with supplies for a four-month trip. I don’t know if the frame can handle the stresses of hyperspace engines. We may have to salvage it for some parts.”

In the end, that’s what the orgs concluded. I opened a huge teleportal to Phoenix, and they pulled the shuttle through with a ground tug. Then we went to the Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island, Florida. Radiation was even lower than it was at the Virginia site. We recovered Atlantis before jumping a few miles away to steal an SR-71 from NASA.

We skipped Endeavor and Enterprise. Endeavor was parked in the middle of Los Angeles. We sent a drone through to measure radiation, and the engineer taking the measurements indicated it would only take about thirty minutes exposure to prove fatal to an org, less for a human. Enterprise was never really a spacecraft. It was designed for
