When Aladdin and his mother had recovered from their fright, and their excitement about this unexpected good fortune had settled, they decided that they would only ever wish for enough to have a good life without causing envy among their neighbours. As such, they could have lived well until the end of their days. However, one day the sultan’s daughter, beautiful Badr al-Budur, visited the city. As soon as Aladdin set eyes on Badr al-Budur, his heart was enchanted. The princess was the most beautiful woman imaginable, with large, bright and passionate eyes, a gentle gaze, a flawless nose, a small mouth and lovely pink lips. Aladdin was consumed by thoughts of how to make his greatest wish – to have Badr al-Budur as his wife – come true. He begged his mother to ask the sultan for the princess’s hand on Aladdin’s behalf. When she replied that it was unlikely she would even be granted access to the palace without a suitable gift, he brushed her doubts aside, because luckily Aladdin remembered the ample treasures he had brought back home with the magic lamp. Treasures that he had since forgotten in his bag. He quickly thought up a plan and arranged his precious stones in a large vase. With this priceless gift, the mother was soon granted an audience in the sultan’s palace.

However, while the sultan was impressed by the magnificently shining gems, he had also noticed the mother’s humble appearance. To ensure that his future son-in-law would be worthy of the princess’s high rank, he demanded proof of Aladdin’s wealth. The mother returned home with the order to deliver forty chests filled with gold, precious stones and the like to the palace. Aladdin was not concerned at all. He fetched the lamp, rubbed it and asked the genie to do his bidding. The genie complied, and the sultan, speechless with delight about securing such a good marriage for his daughter, was happy to accept Aladdin as Badr al-Budur’s future husband.

The wedding was soon celebrated in splendid style. Aladdin did not hesitate to ask the genie in the lamp to build a magnificent palace for him and his bride directly next to the sultan’s – and to provide a veritable army of servants at the couple’s disposal. They lacked nothing, and Aladdin even managed to win favour with all of the city’s people thanks to the generosity he showed to everyone.
