Chapter Twelve

Ria was three seconds away from storming to the office and getting Jayne and Ross when they came out. The sense of foreboding grew deeper with each moment that passed, rising to such a level that it was turning Ria’s stomach. Something was coming.

She blinked, staring out into the twilight lit street, sure that in a moment, she would see headlights or something. Perhaps an entire army of Humans being sent to take her and her family out.

She yelped when Ross kissed her on the cheek and startled her. He laughed, oblivious to her panic. “You, git." She smacked his arm, and he laughed more.

“Still up for Frankie’s?” Jayne asked. Maybe she could see the distress in Ria’s face. Ria tried her best to push it down and hide it.

“Yeah. Why not? I hear they’ve done it all up.”

“They have.”

At least Frankie’s was public, out in the open. They could see who was coming and they could leave, but mostly, she could tell Ross the truth.
