‘It was a silver thing that flew past really slowly. At first all I saw was a flash that went like that, then I saw a shiny thing on the top. It landed in the trees.’

‘Did you see this man you drew?’

‘Yes, I saw him. But it wasn’t a man.’

‘And he looked like this?’

‘Yes.’

‘The eyes were pointed as they came into the centre?’

‘Yes. And they were all black, there was no white in them.’

‘And was he near the craft?’

‘Yes, but then he came towards me.’

‘Did he look at you?’

‘Yes. It made me want to run away only I couldn’t.’

‘One of the other students said he thought it could have been someone from the workers’ village. Was it?’

‘No.’

‘Are you sure?’

‘I’m sure. It wasn’t a person.’

‘Do you think he was anyone from around here?’

‘No.’

‘From somewhere else, then? Another country in the world?’

‘No.’

‘Where do you think he was from?’

‘Up there.’

‘And what do you think his reasons for visiting Earth might have been?’

‘It was about something that was going to happen.’

‘He told you this?’

‘Yes. And it’s true, isn’t it? A bad thing has happened. A terrible thing.’

‘Yes, it has. But are you only saying all this in hindsight?’

‘What’s hindsight?’

‘It’s when we can say something about the past because of what we know now, in the present.’

‘No. They told us but we didn’t listen.’
