HARPER FOLLOWED JARED’S WISHES AND put a whole team together. They weren’t leaving the cemetery, so they could control the environment.

“How many of these do you want?” Eric asked as he held up dreamcatchers.

Harper glanced his way. He’d been with Ghost Hunters Inc. since a few years into the operation, so they had an easy rapport. “How many do we have?” she asked.

“We have ten of them. Do you think we’ll need the full ten?”

Harper considered it, then shrugged. “It’s better to take them and not need them than the alternative.”

“Right.” Eric bobbed his head. He smiled as his wife Molly joined them. She was pregnant again—she’d just announced it a few weeks before, although Harper had had her suspicions—and she seemed to be excited about an outing.

“We haven’t been on a good ghost takedown in months,” she said.

“I’m thinking maybe you should stay inside,” Eric volunteered, causing Harper to cringe when Molly scowled.

“And why would I stay inside?” Molly challenged.

“Because … because…” Eric looked to Harper for help. “Tell her.”

“Oh, you want me to tell her, huh?” Harper considered leaving him to handle the problem on his own but ultimately she didn’t disagree with Eric on this one. “If we’re right, Sara has had a hand in killing two people. We don’t know what sort of damage she can do. What if you trip and fall in your haste to get away from her? What if she tries to hurt you?”

“But … I’ve been on takedowns before.” Molly looked disappointed. “I don’t think I should be treated differently just because I’m pregnant.”

“I don’t want to treat you differently.” Harper opted for honesty. “The thing is, none of us will be okay if something happened to you, and there are plenty of us to go out there. You should monitor from the building. We have cameras out there. You’ll be able to see what’s going on.”

“Well, this is just crap,” Molly complained as Quinn walked into the room. “Can you believe this?”

Quinn’s expression was blank. “I don’t want to be involved in whatever you guys are going to fight about. I’m Switzerland.”

Molly’s brow furrowed. “You’re chocolate?”

“I’m neutral.”

“Whatever.” Molly made a disgruntled sound under her breath. “Am I supposed to be excited about this? I’ve lost track.”

Harper pressed her lips together and flicked her eyes to Eric. She wasn’t going to answer the question.

“Just remember that we’re going to have a healthy baby in a few months and then you can put yourself in danger as much as you want.” Eric seemed to realize what he’d said after the fact. “Or I’ll think of something better to say and get back to you.”

“That’s what I thought,” Molly snapped. She stormed out of the room.

Eric watched her go. Harper could practically hear his heart shrinking.

“She’ll be okay,” Harper assured him. “She’s just full of hormones.”

Eric made an attempt at a smile but failed. “Let’s just do this. I need to make sure I have time to stop and get her ice cream on the way home.
