Turtling

Turtles are very important symbols in many cultures or communities, such as Native American and Hindu cultures. Turtling will also resonate with kids and teenagers, because of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

Clients can use a variety of strategies to take care of themselves, just like turtles:

•Retreating inside themselves and then reemerging when it is safe.

•Going slowly and methodically; being thoughtful about how to invest time, energy and attention.

•Using their hard, outer shells to let things roll off their backs. This is a great way to deflect the judgments of others.

•Being adaptive—turtles are able to live in water and on land.

•Persistently self-righting. When turtles get turned over, they work hard and use their weight and environment to get themselves right-side up and back in balance.

•Although they aren’t aggressive animals, turtles will protect themselves when necessary through snapping or biting.
