3.3 Equal-Mass and Non-destructive Impacts

In this section, we introduce results of our simulations of equal-mass and non-destructive impacts. We set the mass of impactor asteroids to , and we conduct various impact simulations with various impact velocities and angles. We focus on non-destructive impacts that have mass of the largest remnants larger than , and investigate shapes of the largest remnants. The total number of SPH particles for each impact simulation is set to 100,000, which is relatively low resolution but enables to investigate shapes of remnants produced through various impacts with various impact velocities and angles. The resolution dependence of resultant shapes is investigated in Sect. 3.3.1, and we show that this number of SPH particles is sufficient to investigate shapes of, at least, the largest remnants.
