Chapter Thirteen

Ash

Lana. I'm here.

I implore her to hear me, beg her to not lash out at him, but I know nothing can hold her tongue.

She's so fierce. The demure route didn't work but damn, she tried.

When that woman was being used as leverage against her, Lana's heart shone through. I saw the struggle on her face and in the tears that escaped despite her trying to hold them back.

She's never been more beautiful to me than in that moment. To feel so deeply for the pain caused to another.

There isn't a better quality in the world for a queen.

I'm biding my time for an opportunity to help you, Lana. I can’t let anything happen to you.

He thinks I've faded from existence and he’s let his guard down again. I cling to the opening, holding on to consciousness.

If he hurts her, I don't know if I’ll have the self-control to hold back from letting him know I'm here, lurking in the shadows of our mind. He's unhinged and doesn't see Lana as a woman he loves anymore. He sees her as a weapon to dominate, to break, to do his bidding.

I have to wait for an appropriate moment if we have a hope of Lana making it out of here alive.

Anshar goes into manic episodes at night when we’re alone, muttering to a 'dark god' often.

Is he delusional or could this be real?

I suppose if Gaia is willing to communicate with Lana for her piece in all of this, there could be other gods and goddesses out there with skin in the game.

I need to figure out that piece of the puzzle because if there really is a dark god answering his prayers, then Gaia have mercy on all our souls.

Sebastian isn't proving to be as formidable an opponent as I had thought he would be. At this point, I wouldn't blink twice if Anshar went into a rage and killed him. Sebastian brought Lana here and, for that, he deserves a long, drawn-out death.

I'd give anything to talk to Lana for just a few moments.

To tell her how sorry I am for not being able to fend him off.

To tell her how fiercely I love her.

To tell her that I'm not going to give up on getting her out of here.

I think of my brothers and hope they're forming a formidable plan to save her.

We need you, guys.

I need them. I need them to be here for her, for when the time comes.

I don't know if there’s any coming back for me after that.
