* * * *

That night, while Brenden was off at one of the many parties, Pat and Viktor lounged in bed watching videos on his laptop. Viktor, or rather Vee, hadn’t been able to watch the race, so Pat had shown him the replay. That had forced Pat to teach Viktor about wagering, odds and a great deal of trivia about horseracing that usually didn’t concern the horse at all.

Viktor watched Teetee’s run and nodded to himself. “He likes one mile. He tires after that.”

“Yes, exactly. He’s a miler.”

“And I?”

“You’re a champion. You’ve the pedigree to go longer.” Pat stroked Viktor’s back, eased himself over the man, straddling him so he could massage Viktor’s shoulders.

Viktor made a happy sound. “Feels good.” He remained focused on the laptop. “You can watch any race on this?”

“Pretty much,” Pat agreed.

“Mine?”

“Absolutely. Do you want to watch them?”

Viktor shook his head. “Parents?”

“Ah, yes. Both your sire and your dam were champions.” Pat reached over and typed Queen V into the search field. YouTube obligingly spat out a list of the great mare’s races. Pat selected one in particular. “This is your mother in perhaps her biggest race, the Breeder’s Cup Classic. She went up against the boys for this one.”

“That’s hard for a filly. We’re stronger, faster.” Viktor reached up and caressed Pat’s arm. “She win?”

Pat hit play, and they watched the race unfold together. Queen V was never in a hurry. She broke slowly and lagged behind the field, dead last of fourteen horses. Viktor shook his head. “Crazy. She’s not trying to run.”

“Just wait. Your mother won nineteen of twenty races, and the one she lost, her last, she lost by a bare nose. And she ran every one of her races this way.”

Viktor humphed but focused on the screen as the horses neared the far turn.

“She accelerates now.” On the screen, Queen V was starting to roll, passing two other horses. The field turned for home and Queen V angled to the outside. Viktor’s indrawn breath was apparent to Pat, laying atop him, but he understood the emotion behind it as Queen V flew by the other horses like they were standing still, taking the lead in the final strides and winning by a length. From last to first in the most dramatic of fashions. “Can I do that?”

“You probably could, but please don’t. You’d give me heart attack.”

Viktor rolled Pat off his back and pounced, kissing and stroking. “I? Never. I never hurt you.” He pulled Pat’s legs apart and rubbed a hand against his bottom. “I want you.”

“Amazingly enough, I want you, too.” Pat rubbed himself on Viktor, making his desire plain. Viktor didn’t need further encouragement, and Pat reaped the rewards of the man’s randiness. Viktor was riding him now, and Pat adored being full of his lover. Viktor was languid in his lovemaking today, caressing and kissing Pat the entire time.

Pat reached out and queued up another race. “Here’s your father, Tachyon.”

“Xanthos,” murmured Viktor into Pat’s ear. He followed the words with his tongue, holding Pat down as the smaller man trembled from the sensation.
