Chapter 17

“Is that what you’re wearing?” I look over at Aurora as she sits lacing her boots.

She looks up at me frostily and then goes back lacing her boots.

I frown. “Suit yourself. I just thought you would have been more comfortable in a dress or something.”

“I’m comfortable,” she bites out with barely concealed annoyance and stands.

I take a good look at her. Despite the fact that she is wearing ordinary skin-tight jeans and boots with a plain black blouse, her hair pulled up in a ponytail and her face devoid of make-up, she is drop dead gorgeous. Who needs to be all dolled up in a short dress and painted face when you have a natural beauty shining through?

I check my watch as Dmitri saunters in from the kitchen and notice Aurora looking at him in puzzlement. I walk over and stand in front of her, forcing her to look up at me. I do not miss the blatant resentment in her eyes. I could care less right now.

I grab my jacket from the rack at the door and notice that Aurora does not have one. I raise an eyebrow in her direction and hold up my jacket. She rolls her eyes in exasperation and goes back to her room.

“We’ve got a bit of an attitude tonight, huh?” Dmitri chuckles.

I shoot him a warning look not to flap his gums.

Aurora comes back pushing her arms through the sleeves of her jacket and we are out the door. I guide her to the back seat and get in beside her while Dmitri slides into the driver’s seat. She immediately slides to the extreme corner and turns to stare out the window. I take out my phone and dial a number. Engrossed in preliminary negotiations with a client regarding a new request, I slide to the centre of the seat, ignoring her pointed look at my movement. I reach out and take the hand nearest to me and gently stroke her fingers. I feel her tense slightly, but she does not pull away.

“We do expect to have that shipment coming in sometime next month. Our international contacts are finalising the contents of the container as we speak. So, if you want to get your ‘goods’ when we get that load, your payment needs to hit the account asap.”

I smile as I listen to the response on the other end. “Great doing business with you as always, Renaldo.”

I end the call and dial another number.

“Reuben. Drakos. Renaldo is in for hundred thousand worth. Add it to the shipment log.”

I end that call and place the phone in my jacket before turning to Aurora. She is still looking out the window. The passing streetlights illuminate her profile which turns towards me when I lift the hand I am holding to my lips. I kiss it gently while I hold her gaze.

“If anyone want to know who you are, I’m going to be introducing you as my girlfriend.” I tell her.

“I am not your girlfriend,” She snatches her hand away and all but snarls at me.
