^elebrate the birthday of our nation's freedom by J liberating yourself from the misery that imprisons you from dealing with a wayward child. Remember: Pain may be inevitable, but misery is optional! Three principles open that prison door:

• Love your child unconditionally.

• Let your child go—release him to God's care.

• Pray constantly!

We may not love what our children are doing, but we love THEM. However, one person's sin can't be allowed to destroy everyone else. When your child is in trouble, the main thing is to keep your relationship with God and your spouse and family solid while continuing to reach out to the wandering child. You may have to tell an adult child, "I can't let you destroy the family. I'll help you find another place."

Then pray. Just as you once covered up your little one's shoulders when you tucked him in at night, now you cover him constantly in prayer.

Each day God gives us grace ... for the next step.
