Day 188

Lillian Trasher

Missionary

1897–1965

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

PSALM 91:11–12 NIV

Lillian Trasher went to Egypt as a missionary in 1910, and eventually began an orphanage for neglected children. By 1916 she had fifty children in her care. But obstacles developed as she cared for their needs. Often with nothing to feed the children, she rode from village to village on a donkey begging for food.

A perilous time occurred during a political outbreak against British rule in 1919. As hostilities increased, Lillian and her children survived for three days hiding in an abandoned brick kiln. Buildings all around the orphanage were destroyed but miraculously the buildings on orphanage property stood intact.

In 1933 Lillian suffered another blow when Muslim authorities removed seventy children from the orphanage, the only home many of them had known.

Dangers, dire needs, and anxious moments haunted this woman for years. Through it all, God supported Lillian Trasher. No doubt at times, angels came to her rescue.

Are you in a precarious situation? Call on God. You also may be directed to ask Him to send His angels to support you spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally—in all your ways.
