Jiran swirled within a churning sea of shifting impressions. His sluggish thoughts tried to reach out and touch them, but they shifted just beyond his grasp no matter how he moved.

“Can you speak?” His words echoed away from him. The echoes created two ripples that grew in strength, turning into waves as they moved away from him. The waves picked up speed, soon forming into massive tsunamis that crashed through the sea. Wherever they passed, they left behind structure, and purpose. Within the blink of an eye, the vastness before him had turned into an enormous tunnel.

The waves traveled down opposite sides of the tunnel until they intersected far in the distance. Where the waves met, Jiran swore he could see eyes looking back at him.

“What are you?”
