Diane Chambers, of course, had reported on the death of Hazel Cooper.

She was a former soldier who had died and her body found on the edge of the garrison near to where the latest building work was being carried out. She was still digging into the death. She’d been on the barracks, seen the site of the burial and was now writing the copy. Looking at the screen of the laptop she sighed. It was very boring, if she was honest. She could flower up her copy, but it would only be stuffing and that wasn’t her style.

She had to find the dead woman’s husband. She rang a couple of policemen she knew and an informant, Nuts, who regularly helped with information she needed for the paper. Infact he was the one who came through. The police either didn’t know anything or were not talking.

She met Nuts outside the Aldershot football ground, as fans were streaming in through the turnstiles. She was stood looking at the match board, when Nuts approached her. He was wearing his trademark Aldershot football shirt with a bucket hat on his head. Jeans and trainers completed the look. Diane wasn’t sure what style he was aiming for, but whatever it was, he’d clearly missed the mark. Anyways, he slipped her a piece of paper and she passed him a tenner. Nuts went into the ground with a grin on his face being £10 up on the day, and she melted away towards the town centre.

Diane stopped at the first café she came to and ordered a coffee. Sat in the window she looked at the paper Nuts had given her. It contained the name of a local pub.

Don’t know his address, Nuts had written. But he drinks in this pub most nights.

Diane checked her diary, she was free that night, so she might just pop in for a dink after work.
