Dammit, Bart needed to curb his oral fixation about visible spots, especially if Vega was going to visit regularly. My shirt collar hid most of the mark, but it still peeked above it. I covered the spot where my shoulder met my neck with my hand as I felt her stare holes into me as I flipped through one letter after another. They just kept coming. How much fan mail could one narcissistic sociopath receive in a week? Every admirer was crazier than the last. There were even notes about what items were included with the letters. Chamberlain's mail should come with biohazard stickers. There were even a few that asked for samples, and I nearly threw up in my mouth.
"We're not going to talk about the massive, and I mean massive hicky?" Vega kept poking the back of my hand with her vape pen, and I was trying to ignore her entire presence. "You can see that from space." She giggled. "How badly was he trying to be quiet?"
"Oh, they weren't trying to be quiet. I'm surprised the neighbors didn't call in an attempted murder," Dolan muttered from the other side of the room. I turned to flip him off and caught him winking at me.
I glared at all of them. Outside of sex or initiating sex, I'd never talked about it, but since meeting them, they were all sex-positive, and that included not wanting sex at all. It took some getting used to. No one had any discomfort, but in my past, sex was something shameful. I'd spent so long obsessively hiding my sexuality. Bart had no qualms about his open displays of affection or telling me he was mine.
"And you thought you weren't ready?" Vega whispered and leaned in until she could place her chin on my shoulder. "All kidding aside, I'm proud of you."
I shifted my gaze in her direction. "Why are you proud?"
"I understand how hard it is to take that step. Some people are never ready. But you picked a great guy. I don't say this about many people. Bart's one of the good ones. He'll always put you first."
That's what I worried aboutâBart putting too much focus on me and ignoring what he had to do for himself. I couldn't bear the thought that I'd wear out my welcome. I tried to correct my beliefs formulated by experienceâthat whatever a man told me, he'd always leave. "But shouldn't he take something for himself?"
"Sometimes a Dominant's purpose is the care and comfort of their submissive. I'm not saying it's that way for everyone, of course. A Dominant needs to take time to unwind and process. For me, Cash is my full focus. I feel fulfilled when she's at her happiest. Trust Bart to know when he needs a break. Even mine are still about my babygirl, cuddling and watching a movie, a night where I'm just Vega, not Mami."
"I don't want him to get sick of me." I lowered my voice so no one else could hear.
