Chapter Seven

Sam paused at the front door of her cabin and glanced back at all of us following her.

“You can come,” she said, pointing to the alpha of the coyotes. “But the rest of you need to stay out here. I don’t want too big of an audience.”

“Yeah, that’s not going to happen,” Nash said before I could. “I’m coming in there with you.”

“So am I,” I interjected. There was no way I’d let one of the most vulnerable members of my clan and my brother go anywhere with the alpha of these coyotes alone.

“If he’s going, then so am I,” Nick snapped. “Got to be closer to even on the numbers, after all.”

Sam placed a hand on her hip. “You, you, and you can be inside the room with me. Nash, you can wait outside the door, and Nick, you can wait there with him if you want. The rest of you can stay out here.”

I glanced at everyone. It looked like that was a fair solution to them all, so I went with it too and nodded to Sam, signaling my approval.

She opened the door to the cabin and stepped inside first.

I’d only been here once or twice since Nash and Sam had moved in. It was still strange to see their things and Dottie’s mixed together.

I hated she was gone.

As we made our way down the narrow hall, heading toward what used to be Sam’s room growing up, memories flooded me. I’d come here so many times searching for Nash. He’d always been so consumed by Sam that he’d often forget the time of day.

God, that felt like ages ago now.

Everyone filed into Sam’s art room, except Nash—who looked reluctant as hell to not be staying at her side—and Nick who looked as though he felt the same about his mate. Sam closed the door behind us, after kissing Nash on the cheek, and then made her way to sit at her art easel.

“How does this work?” Hoff asked. His brows were scrunched together as he stared at Sam, his gaze bouncing between her and the blank canvas on the easel in front of her.

“I focus my mind on you and your Mystic, and an image should come. One that should show us a snapshot of her current location. Hopefully, it will be enough to help you find her.” Sam hovered her hand over the paintbrushes displayed on a tray to her left as though she was waiting to feel a tug from the right one. “At least, that’s what I’m hoping will happen.”

“You said you’d done this before? To help another alpha find his Mystic?” Demi asked, sounding skeptical while at the same time hopeful. I noticed her hand was pressed against her stomach again. It was clear she was pregnant, although she didn’t seem to be far along.

Sam nodded. “Once.”

Silence built through the small room. Everyone’s attention was on Sam, but mine. I kept my eyes on Hoff. If he even looked at Sam funny, my bear and I were ready to take him out.
