LUCA

I woke gradually, a dopey smile etched onto my face as the pleasant aches from certain parts of me prompted memories of the night before. I was cozy and surprisingly comfortable as I snuggled closer into the warm chest underneath me. The strong arms that held me coiled tighter as I stirred before deft hands roamed over my blanket-covered body—coaxing me further into consciousness.

“Good morning, sweetheart.”

Fuck, and here I’d thought Cair’s voice couldn’t get any sexier. But then, I guess I hadn’t accounted for hearing him barely roused from sleep.

“G’ morn’g,” I mumbled back, pressing my face into the side of his neck. “Wh’ time’s it?”

“A little after six.”

An unintelligible grunt escaped me, and I willed my still jellylike limbs to look alive. I winced at the sting in my ass, but Cair’s hands were there instantly, supporting my weight as if it were nothing as I squirmed and straightened in his lap. He cocked one perfect eyebrow when I huffed, my lips pursed in a frustrated pout. “This isn’t comfy anymore.”

Cair’s mouth curved slightly. “Straddle me.”

It took some graceless maneuvering and a knee—and possibly an elbow—jabbed into Cair’s stomach before I was in position, my palms flat against his chest to steady myself. “Much better.” I grinned happily when Cair tucked the blanket back over my thighs.

“Pleased to hear it,” he muttered dryly. “Are you settled? Or am I to add a headbutt to my list of injuries?”

“Oh, hush. You’re durable.”

“Durable, he says.” Cair laughed, and my smile widened instinctively at the warm sound. “Well, it’s a good thing, what with having such a clumsy little bedmate.”

“I am not clumsy.” I frowned as I crossed my arms. Not that I had a leg to stand on; I really was clumsy, but still. I had to defend my honor.

The look that flitted over his face made it clear that he found my answer—or just me in general—highly amusing. “That so,” he mused, and his tone suggested that he took great pleasure in teasing me. Bastard. “Then I must have imagined all those times you tripped over thin air, hmm?”

“Yup. Must be your old age.”

“You little shit.”

Before I knew what was happening, his hands lunged for my sides, fingers poking deliberately between my ribs. I had no control over the squeal that erupted from me, my eyes bulging as I wriggled and thrashed in his lap. He was merciless, grinning like a shark as he tickled me, obviously reveling in the embarrassing flood of breathy giggles that cascaded from my mouth. My vision blurred, and I shoved weakly at his hands, stuttering out half-assed pleas for him to stop.

Eventually he did—after he’d had his fill of torturing me. I shook with the remnants of my laughter, hiccuping through a relieved sigh as I wiped the back of my hand across my eyes. That was when I noticed Cair gazing at me, his darkened irises a stark contrast to the soft yet unreadable expression on his face.

I smiled shyly. “What?”

“You’re so adorable,” Cair murmured, and I ducked my head, face heating.
