How? How can I lift Connor’s bike in the air? I have to find out why I can do the things I can. My emotions are the catalyst. I was so angry with Connor that with my mind, I threw his bike in midair. The minor issue of wind control is obviously a task I’m going to have to work on. As I walk, I’m thinking I can trust Casey enough to help me train with my newfound gifts.

I walk off in a huff from Connor, mainly because he dropped me like everyone does. I blame myself for it. He’s not exactly solid boyfriend material. I have class, but my mind is scattered too much to concentrate. I head to the cafeteria and grab a drink. I take it to the nearest oak tree and make a call.

He has the answers and can’t deny me anymore. I’m his daughter, and at one time, whether he admits it, he loved me.

After three rings, he picks up. “Ella… are you safe? Thorn told me he came to talk to you, and a Dark Eclipse wolf attacked him. Is this true?” he accuses. I shake my head. Thorn is busy twisting the truth once more and getting away with it.

“No. I’ve told you already that Thorn has tried to kill me. Not once, but repeatedly, and you won’t listen to me,” I yell, but remember, the purpose of the call is to find out about who I really am. If I steam too much, I will not get the answers I want.

“I highly doubt Thorn is attempting to murder his own mate. I think that school has you losing your mind, and I don’t want you there if Dark Eclipsers run at it.”

Smarmily, I reply. “Too late!”

“What do you mean?”

“There’s a Dark Eclipse pack that goes to school here. What do you know about the Rakes? Connor Rake?”

My father releases a heavy sigh. “Connor Rake. Bad news is what I know. He’s a drug dealer, a thief, and the progeny of an evil alpha. Zane Rake is a taker. Unless he can take from others, he doesn't have any business skills. He runs illegal gambling rackets, extorts money mobster style from New Yorkers, and is trying to sabotage the Moon Hunters any chance he gets. He and I are locked in a bidding war battle over three properties. He’s vandalized three of our restaurants and sent his goons in to terrorize the patrons. The man is trying to drive customers out of our restaurants. You can only imagine what his son is like.”

I think of Connor and how he’s nonchalant about class, never attending. There is something sinister about the way he operates. “Okay.” I have nothing else left to say, and the conversation has taken a different turn.

“Yes, to give you a deeper understanding, Connor Rake is heir to the throne, like you. His grandfather is the same people who killed your mother. Stay away from Connor Rake.”

I won’t stay away. I want to understand.
