I woke up alone. For a moment, I peered at the rumpled covers through barely-slitted-open eyes and tried to decide if I’d somehow imagined last night. Then I moved my legs, thinking to stretch. Every muscle protested vehemently. I groaned, both at the delicious soreness and the undeniable evidence that I had, in fact, definitely let Sawyer Donovan fuck me senseless in my own bed and loved every minute of it.

Rolling over, I pressed my face into the pillow and tried to grapple with the dismay welling up inside me at the realization that he’d been here and gone.

Don’t be ridiculous, I scolded myself. Of course, he’s gone. It was a one-night stand. He doesn’t owe you anything. Besides, it’s a Monday—everyone but you has to work.

A shrill, unfamiliar sound interrupted my reasoning, and I picked my head up. The noise stopped, but now that I was listening, I could hear other sounds—water running, a male voice, a thud that might have been a cabinet shutting. Was … was Sawyer in my kitchen?

Fairly certain that I was hallucinating, or possibly still dreaming, I dragged myself out of bed. Snagging my robe from where it hung on a hook just inside the closet, I pulled it on and stumbled down the short hall. The combination filled the air with a tantalizing combination of sweet and savory aromas.

“You’re sure the Cryptocurrency Report is done?” Sawyer said into his phone, his eyes narrowing skeptically. “I don’t want it pushed to the next step if it’s missing anything. That’s just a waste of everyone’s time.”

Angling himself in my direction, he slid those incredible eyes up and down my robe-swathed form once and grinned. He winked at me and tipped his head toward the coffeemaker where a fresh pot waited. A nearly-full mug that I took to be his sat beside the stove, heavily doctored with cream. He stole a quick swig while listening to whoever was on the other end of the line.

He stayed. He’s making breakfast. Neither idea seemed to compute in my addled brain. Dazed, I automatically moved toward the coffee, hoping that caffeine would somehow help all of this make sense.

“All right,” Sawyer said, dumping a bowl of already-whisked eggs into the pan over the onions and peppers. “Send it to Walter for a first proof, then. What about the Liquor Imports Report?”

I slipped behind Sawyer, retrieved creamer from the refrigerator, and dumped a generous amount into my coffee. Taking a sip, I tried to ignore the way my stomach fluttered. There was
