“I am that champion.”

Chapter Ten

Iridium's determination burned brightly within him as he closed in on the encampment. He had dedicated weeks of tireless pursuit, tracking the girl's every move through treacherous terrain and scorching heat. The slaver known as The Butcher had thought he could hide in the vast southern desert, but Iridium was relentless in his pursuit.

With unwavering focus, Iridium pressed forward, his resolve unwavering. The distance he had traveled and the challenges he had overcome were nothing compared to the importance of his mission.

Through sandstorms and sweltering heat, Iridium persevered. His resolute commitment to his cause drove him onward, pushing his body and mind to their limits. Locating the girl was a crucial step in fulfilling his obligations to the Elders, and he would not rest until he succeeded.

He had been smart enough to skirt the outside of the Lions camp and follow the slavers' trail to their current location. He had deduced they were heading to the Sun City, most likely to sell off their new set of slaves. The Southlands were well known for being open to slavery unlike the Northlands who despised the act.

Upon arriving in the area, he soon discovered the death of one Guardian at the hands of The Butcher. They had burned the man alive, the poor soul. Knowing this he made sure to keep a wide distance between himself and the camp; he would not let himself become another casualty. No, he would watch and wait until the timing was perfect before making his move on the girl. The Elders had sent their very best this time and he would not fail them. But he was not the only one following the camp as they trudged through the desert heading toward the capital for market.

It was early on when he picked up the trail of the pack of Night Runners who followed the girl as well. He had encountered a scout from the pack that he had been forced to deal with. He took his time with the creature, foul abomination that it was, and relished in its torture.

He still smiled to himself as he remembered the way it squealed under his knife as he skinned it alive for information. In the end the animal had none worth his time, but it was still a pleasure to torment the beast.

The rest of the pack seemed to understand brute force would not be the way to infiltrate the camp to retrieve the girl as well and he watched them from afar using a set of glass discs set into a cylinder. The combination of discs allowed for the viewer to see the landscape on a larger scale.

They were disorganized but well disciplined. The albino was obviously the Alpha of the pack, and he had no issues pushing the others into place. He had witnessed more than one minor skirmish between some of the lesser members, but they were halted before they could go too far.

He would have to deal with the pack sooner or later but chose to leave them alone for now.
