When the trail bends back to the west, you approach the southern portion of the lake. The tree cover grows sparse for a bit, the path lined with sumac instead of maples, before you pop back into forest and cross East Lake Rebecca Road for the second and final time. The path remains wooded west of the road, but glimpses of Lake Rebecca come into view on your right, and pleasant views over the lake open up when you reach its southwestern edge.

The trail here intersects the mountain biking route, offering a bailout heading north back to the trailhead. It’s also around this point that the paved trail turns south and uphill. It’s not a particularly steep climb, but it’s persistent for maybe 0.5 mile or so as you head toward the southern border of the park near Kasma Marsh. You’ll intersect the mountain bike trail again, cross a dusty service road, and draw hip to hip with the horse trail, all in close succession.
