Chapter Twenty-One

Avery

I tried to engage as much as I could in the conversation about Jameson, but my mind kept drifting between the case and the remembered feeling of Evan’s lips against mine. He made me want things I’d never known I wanted. A home. A relationship. All those images had crashed into my mind when his lips had met mine. I had been scared at first, but I was surrounded by happiness, and I didn’t care anymore. I felt each barrier, each wall I had strategically placed around myself start to crumble and fuck me, it was terrifying. I scrambled to place my walls back up, but each time he looked at me, each time he gazed in my direction, said anything to me, I felt like I was losing myself. Falling, falling, falling....

With his body so close to mine, I could still feel the heat radiating from him, a sign that his passion for me was burning even when it should be contained. My own body was on overdrive, like it was a runaway freaking train. I couldn’t control the impulse to take him, fuck him so hard that he couldn’t remember any other woman besides me. Our bodies spoke to each other even when we sat in silence, even when we talked about the deaths of innocent people.

“All right, guys. There isn’t much else we can do tonight. We should wrap it up and get some rest.” Madison yawned as she placed the marker on the whiteboard.

Murmurs of agreement filled the room. Everyone’s eyes held the tiredness and burden of the day as the clock blared 12:30 a.m. The hustle of the precinct was now a low rumble as tired officers dragged themselves home to their families.

“I’ll be right back. I have to go grab something,” Evan said as his fingers touched my back. Just that simple touch sent my body whirling with thoughts of him between my legs, of me between his. I watched as he walked away, the tight pants hugging his ass just right. I couldn’t help but think how I’d love to take a bite out of that. I shook my head, trying to clear it from the sexual desires that refused to leave. I brought my hand to my cheek and felt the heat, the need as it coursed through my veins.

“Where are Garcia and Marshall? Thought they’d be here to help.” Torres asked me.

I heard what he said but my brain was still focused on Evan’s ass.

“Hum?” I asked as I glanced up at Torres. We started walking out of the conference room as he repeated his question.

“I tried to call them, but no answer. Guess they must be busy on a case they are working on,” I replied.

“Huh, I tried to call Marshall, and she didn’t answer either. It isn’t like her.”

I gave Torres a wide smile. “So, you and Marshall....” I nudged him with my elbow as we exited the building. The muggy air hit us, making it hard to breath.
