I wake naked in a glade, a blanket of grass beneath me, the trees swaying in the wind. Itâs a beautiful day. I stretch until every muscle is awake. Last night was the third night weâve searched the forest for traps.
We have the men locked in my basement since they wonât tell us where the traps are located or when this group is supposed to visit my property to hunt. I had a security system installed on the main driveway onto my property but the size of the forest makes it impossible to secure.
For now, the solution is the wolves are taking shifts walking the land. Iâve mapped out where we found the traps, but I have a feeling there are more.
I stand and survey my surroundings. Iâm learning to find comfort deep in Keyan Forest. But Iâm still have a hard time finding my way around as a man.
I cover more ground, quickly, in my wolf form. As the beast, as Rose so eloquently phrased itâafter I scared the shit out of herâIâm faster and I can make it back to the house without walking around in circles because my heightened senses are stronger.
I still have to find Leesa to break this curse, in the meantime, I might as well enjoy the perks of being a werewolf. But Iâve never transformed without a full moon or being provoked by my anger.
Letâs see I could review my list of symptoms and try to recreate them. I start a light jog around the perimeter of the glade. And after five laps, Iâm no closer to shifting even at my top speed.
I do some air boxing and some burpees. My heart rate hikes a little. But when I stop to look at my hands, theyâre still normal.
I look over at the grove. Thinking about the zap I got when I touched the wire. That got my heart pumping. I cross my arms walking closer. Nah, thatâs just stupid.
Atka. I rest my hands on my hips walking in the direction of the resort, at least I think I am.
Yo, whatâs up? He yawns.
How do I shift on demand? I walk through the forest appreciating the ease of talking without talking.
I donât know. Babe?
Iâve never tried it but Iâd image you feel something when you change.
Racing heart, rushing adrenaline, and rage.
Those probably bring on an emotionally charged change. What about last night while working with the pack? She asks.
I stop to think about it. What did I feel last night? I was focused and I feel red.
Start there.
Feeling red? This seems a little like meditation. A little woo-woo for me but Iâll try if it means getting back faster. One last question, do you guys hear every thought?
Atka laughs. Why? Did Belle get under your fur?
I shake my head, Iâll never get a straight answer from him. Sakariâ¦
Atka laughs harder. Plus sheâs the only one that can wrangle her wolf in.
Normally, yes. Except where mates are concerned, we canât hear those thoughts.
Mates?
Yes, you call itâ¦I donât know.
