Chapter Eleven

That feeling of sweet hotness, of trust and support, seemed to last until they got all of Nathan’s stuff and dropped him off at the airport security line. They found a corner close to security, shielded by columns, and he gave each of them a lingering embrace and a kiss, just out of sight of the waiting queue of passengers. The little alcove had an ATM machine, and smelled like disinfectant.

“You guys take care of each other while I’m gone, okay?” he said, and smiled at them.

“We will, if you take care of yourself,” Jason said, and hugged Nate again as soon as Tabitha released him. “Call if you need anything.”

“We’ll miss you,” Tabitha said, starting to feel a little awkward—the sex had lulled her into a false sense of confidence, and now she was feeling a little like a fraud, sending Nate off with loving touches and words, when they’d just decided to be a threesome that day.

Another part of her felt steady, though—they really had been acting like a matched set of three for months at this point... And they’d even met her family.

She concentrated on that part, hoping none of the awkwardness showed in her expression.

“I’ll miss you guys too,” Nate said, smiling at her. “Hey, before I go, I want you to know...” His sharp features sobered, and he looked a little awkward, but set his chin. “I want you to have sex without me. I mean—I don’t want you to wait. This isn’t how Jason and I planned for things to go...”

“You had a plan?” Tabitha interrupted, delighted, hoping her pleasure at that news made it a little easier for him to talk.

His jaw relaxed a little.

“Well, if you can call wait until she notices that she’s into us a plan...” Nate said, glancing quickly at Jason, who snorted. “But we’re all together now, right? And we can do things in whatever combination we want. And I want to hear all about what you two are up to while I’m gone. Okay?”

Jason’s smirk had slid away. “Okay, mate. But I wish we could go with you. I don’t feel right sending you back to family drama alone.”

Nate gave him another hug. “I’ll be fine. My family isn’t like yours, and my grandma’s extended family is very supportive. I’ll always have someone there to help.” He hesitated, shifting his weight, and continued, “Thank you for the ticket home—that did help.”

Jason nodded, and patted his back. Well, pounded it, really. He looked like he was trying to keep tears out of his eyes. He looked sort of like a jock whose sports team had just lost.

“We’ll be good,” Tabitha said, feeling a little better that Nate had brought the subject of sex up. “We’ll call you if we need to know how you’d feel about anything.”

“I’d like that,” he said, and took his carry-on bag from Jason, pulled the strap over his head and turned to the gate, walking slowly with his cane. Tabitha realized they must have jacked it up when they were fucking on the floor earlier.
