We got back to the hotel to find J.T. stepping out of the bathroom. He looked well rested, at least that made one of us. He tugged on a clean shirt and pulled me in for a quick kiss.
âSo, what did I miss on your city-spanning adventure?â
âWe found Iain Nobles. Heâs a practitioner like us,â I began, settling on the edge of the bed closest to the window.
âHe gave Ezriâs mother the spell that she used â¦â Desmond trailed off.
âOh ⦠oh shit. Ez, Iâm so sorry.â J.T. sat beside me and took my hand in his. âPlease tell me you didnât send him flying.â
âI didnât. Iâm okay, really. He is doing some digging to help with the vision I had and he gave us some more information to look into.â I pulled out the book. âThere were two ancient sects of Druids back in the day and a woman who has the same name as our ancestor led the light practitioners.â
J.T. squeezed my hand. âAnd you think thatâs the key to figuring out how to stop the Orderâs plans?â
âMaybe. There was a passage in here about how this woman vowed to fight until darkness was wiped from the earth and to protect people. I need to find out everything I can about her.â

It would get too confusing conversing with dead relatives only I could see while having to relay the other half of the conversation to them.
âIâm going for a walk. Maybe some fresh air will help this all make more sense,â I announced and slung the bag back over my shoulder.
âBut, isnât it safer to stay out of sight? We donât know how far the Order reaches or what other trouble might be out there,â J.T. protested.
âHeâs right. Thereâs too much unknown, Ezri. We all agree, you are powerful. However, you are still human and that means you can be hurt,â Desmond added.
âJust because Iain knew who I was, who I really am, doesnât mean everyone does. Just like back home, not every person with magic knows my face. Iâll be fine, guys. I just need a little space.â
Theodora appeared beside me in the hallway and as I eased the door shut, I heard Desmond say, âIâll bet you twenty bucks her Grandma just showed up and she doesnât want us to hear the conversation.â
He may have guessed the wrong relative, but his sentiment wasnât wrong. It wasnât that I didnât want them to hear the conversation. It was more I wasnât in the mood to translate half of the conversation. As a precaution I stuck in Bluetooth headphones so at least to the
